How Flutes Are Used in Corrugated Cardboard

Flutes, or fluting, ensures corrugated cardboard boxes maintain their integrity and strength.

Installed between layers of linerboard and shaped like arches, flutes can resist bending and pressure from all directions. Their inclusion makes boxes sturdier, and they facilitate different options for designing and creating resilient point-of-purchase displays.

Flutes come in several standard shapes or flute profiles (A, B, C, E, F, and so on). When the flutes are higher, they have steeper angles. The steeper the angles, the more strength there is in the box for stacking without crushing the flutes, thus maintaining the integrity of the box.
